Celebrating Pollinator Week: Honoring the Tiny Heroes Behind Our Ecosystems

Jun 13th 2025

Every year in June, nature lovers, gardeners, educators, and environmentalists across the country come together to celebrate Pollinator Week—a time dedicated to recognizing and supporting the essential creatures that keep our ecosystems thriving: pollinators.

What Is Pollinator Week?

Pollinator Week, officially recognized by the U.S. Senate in 2007, is a nationwide celebration that raises awareness about the critical role of pollinators and what we can do to protect them. Mid-June each year, events will take place across the country—ranging from garden tours and educational workshops to pollinator-themed art shows and social media campaigns.

The goal? To shine a light on the birds, bats, butterflies, beetles, and especially bees who make it possible for plants to reproduce and for us to enjoy the fruits, vegetables, and flowers that enrich our daily lives.

How Is It Celebrated?

Pollinator Week encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to take part. Here are just a few of the ways communities join in:

  • Planting Pollinator Gardens: Filled with native wildflowers, herbs, and shrubs, these gardens offer food and habitat for bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects.

  • Hosting Educational Events: Schools, museums, and farms often offer classes or talks on pollinator conservation and native plant importance.

  • Spreading the Word: Social media campaigns using hashtags like #PollinatorWeek or #SaveTheBees help raise global awareness.

  • Supporting Local Pollinator Projects: From bee sanctuaries to monarch butterfly tagging, local efforts often receive a boost in funding and attention during this week.

For all of us at Big Dipper Wax Works, we head over to Decatur, GA or "Beecatur," a Bee City just down the road from our warehouse and celebrate by getting out in our community and participating in the Pollinator Festival!

Why Pollinators Matter

Pollinators are responsible for 1 out of every 3 bites of food we eat. They help over 75% of flowering plants reproduce—including more than 100 crops. But their populations are in decline due to habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change.

Protecting pollinators isn’t just about saving bees—it’s about safeguarding biodiversity, food security, and the future health of our planet.

How Big Dipper Wax Works Supports Pollinators

At Big Dipper Wax Works, our deep appreciation for bees goes beyond just their wax.

Our 100% pure beeswax candles are crafted using sustainably sourced wax that supports responsible beekeeping practices. Burning beeswax doesn’t just fill your home with a natural, honeyed glow—it’s also a subtle way to contribute to pollinator health:

  • Clean-Burning: Beeswax candles burn clean with little to no soot, helping reduce air pollution indoors.

  • Eco-Friendly: Unlike paraffin candles, beeswax is a renewable resource that doesn't rely on petroleum.

  • Supports Beekeepers: Purchasing beeswax products helps beekeepers maintain healthy hives and contribute to local ecosystems.

And most importantly—we give back.
5% of all net profits from Big Dipper Wax Works go directly to non-profit organizations dedicated to pollinator outreach, education, and sustainability efforts. That means every candle you burn helps fund the protection of the very pollinators we celebrate this week. This Pollinator Week, join us in honoring the hardworking insects that make life bloom. Plant some flowers, skip the pesticides, share the buzz on social media—and if you’re looking for a way to bring that spirit into your home, light a beeswax candle from Big Dipper Wax Works. It’s a small act that makes a big difference. Because every flame lit is a tribute to the bees that keep our world in balance.
